Our latest project goes to the heart of the matter as we help prepare Plymouth for an increasingly extreme climate, specifically coastal, pluvial and fluvial flooding.
Beginning in June, Resilient Plymouth is a 210,000 Euro grant funded by Pathways2Resilience’s Knowledge Innovation Community and led by the Centre. It brings together Plymouth’s local and regional authorities, connecting them with the single aim of strengthening their preparedness against flooding. The project advocates for a strong policy shift towards coastal communities, and the development of strategies tailored to their specific needs.
The grant’s work will be carried out through our partnerships with Plymouth City Council and the Key Cities Innovation Network and is based on issues highlighted in a report titled ‘On the Waterfront’ written by Kasper de Graaf, Kevin McKenzie, Rebecca Smith MP and two members of the CfCC, Professors Sheena Asthana and Sheela Agarwal.
It is now more imperative than ever that we prepare for a severe climate in the UK, particularly in coastal regions. Promised outputs from this initiative include a detailed action plan, a coastal climate resilience strategy and a forward-looking investment plan.
