Beer, East Devon

South West

The picture-postcard village of Beer nestles in Lyme Bay, 20 miles east of Exeter. We are situated on the ‘’Jurassic Coast’, England’s first natural World Heritage Site. We’re also on the one of the most beautiful stretches of the South West Coastal Path.

Life in Beer has centred around the sea for centuries – its fishing community, the smugglers who used the tiny coves and nearby caves and now tourists, attracted by its beauty and great bathing.

Wonderful Beer Beach is surrounded by picturesque white chalk cliffs which provide a natural suntrap. It is also a working beach – we have an active fishing fleet whose much photographed boats you will often see being winched up the beach. Visitors can buy locally caught fish and crabs.

In addition to the beach and great walking, we have two great family attractions: Pecorama, with its famous light railway, and Beer Quarry Caves, a cavern complex that has been quarried since Roman times. Event highlights include Beer Sailing Regatta in August, and our Rhythm & Blues Festival in October.

Busy Fore Street, the main road leading down to the beach, is lined with independent shops, cafes, pubs and art galleries.
