Watchet

Watchet is a small but lively and picturesque harbour town (population around 4,000) situated on the Bristol Channel coast. It has a strong marine based industrial heritage dating back 1,000 years, and as such has many stories connected with vikings, pirates, Romantic poets and sea shanties. It has a heritage steam train line, the West Somerset Railway which runs from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, as well as a vibrant marina, local interest museums and a wild Jurassic coastline rich with fossils. The town itself is full of cafes, galleries and independent shops.

As a Coastal Communities Team made of a Watchet regeneration social enterprise, local businesses, District and Town Councils and community interest groups the town is collectively working towards developing a stronger future for the town. The overall vision for Watchet is a future in which there is a thriving tourism economy which celebrates our rich heritage, more jobs, better  community facilities.
