Portland, Dorset

South West

The “Island and Royal Manor” of Portland, a peninsula joined the mainland by  Chesil Beach stretches some four miles in to the English Channel making it a real coastal community.

Famous for its stone Portland‘s landscape is unique, bearing the scars of extensive quarrying, but this sense of isolation is its very beauty and strength. The Island is at the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Coast and offers an incredible heritage. Portland was the host of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games sailing events and with its rich diverse seascape and landscape offers many other activities including sailing, windsurfing, diving, climbing, birdwatching and walking.

Portland’s Coastal Community Team has led and supported the development of a dedicated business and community working group and Board to enable us to develop the Future Portland: Economic Vision and Action Plan.  The group has provided the framework to create local prosperity and vibrant successful communities whilst the Vision sets out our ambitions to develop and shape the island’s economy over the next 15 years.
