Isle of Sheppey

South East

Boasting a rich history, the Isle of Sheppey is situated off the north Kent coast and covers 36sq km.

With a rapidly growing population of more than 40,000 people, it offers close links to London and the rest of the county.

It really comes alive in summer when thousands of visitors arrive to stay in its many holiday parks.

The main commercial centre is Sheerness which is home to one of Britain’s busiest ports.

Historic Queenborough has a working harbour while the areas of Minster, Leysdown and Eastchurch are major population centres.

The SheppeyProud campaign brings together businesses, voluntary organisations, public bodies and educational institutions.

Already a comprehensive survey has been completed on how residents want the Island to develop.

This information is being digested by several focus groups, charged with providing evidence for the campaign’s economic plan.

Sheppey has a lot going for it: history and heritage, nature and open spaces, beaches and industry.

But it also has major deprivation and suffers from a lack of social and infrastructure investment stretching back decades.

SheppeyProud aims to restore community pride and provide practical and achievable solutions to problems facing residents. We’re proud of our Island and determined to do our best for it.
