South Hayling Island

South East

Hayling Island is a small 'T' shaped island  in Hampshire four miles long and four miles wide. Easily accessed by a road bridge or by private boat, it is situated  between Portsmouth and Chichester. The island has a lot to offer and is widely regarded as the birth place and home  of windsurfing.  The Island boasts two sailing clubs, two marinas and annually hosts The National Watersports Festival and Kitesurfing Armada.

The hugely popular Seafront is almost unique in that parking and access is allowed along almost all of the four mile stretch of the beach on the south coast. The Seafront is a favourite of families, dog walkers, horse riders and anyone generally wanting to enjoy some lovely clear air!  The Island is protected by the Isle of Wight to the south and has it’s own microclimate.

Shops, restaurants, cafes and various forms of entertainment are generally centred around West Beach and Eastoke Corner with more shops and cafes in the villages of Mengham and West Town a little to the north.  A 2 ft narrow gauge railway travels a mile along the Seafront from its base at Eastoke Corner to a small funfair at West Beach.

The Haylings Best Coastal Community Team are committed to connecting residents and visitors with the varied activities and businesses that the Island offers.
