Silloth-on-Solway, Cumbria

North West

Located on the west coast of northern Cumbria, the area covered by the Silloth-on-Solway Coastal Community Team is designated in part as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the market town of Silloth lying at its heart. Silloth, which developed as a Victorian seaside resort, retains much of its original character and charm and is a popular visitor destination during the Summer months. The large town green hosts some great festivals and events and is very much at the centre of local community life.

The Silloth-on-Solway Coastal Community Team has come together to help unlock the potential of this beautiful and unspoilt area, which is also a World Heritage Site as it contains the Roman frontier of Hadrian’s Wall. Our aim is to develop Silloth and the surrounding area into a world class, year-round visitor destination by making more of our fantastic coastal environment, abundant wildlife and built and social heritage amongst other things.

The Coastal Community Team is developing an action plan for the area that builds on the vision of the Solway Coast AONB Partnership: “A shared responsibility for a very special place” and we’re placing local people and businesses at the core of our strategy.
