SO Festival Screening
Skegness Screening Day
Saturday 1 July 2017
As part of the annual SO Festival, Opera for All will host a Big Screen event on Saturday 1 July 2017 from 1.00 – 5.30pm (with a community choir workshop at 12 midday), open to all ages and free of charge. Garsington Opera’s production of Handel’s opera Semele will be screened alongside live performance from a pop-up community choir.
If you’re coming to see the opera, why not join us to learn a short, easy chorus from Semele? Further details can be found here.
Garsington Opera has been working in Skegness and the surrounding area since 2012. In partnership with the charitable trust Magna Vitae, the project has delivered free screenings of opera open to everyone and anyone locally.
With the development of Opera for All in 2015, the partnership continues to programme free screenings of opera from Garsington in the public spaces of Skegness, while also raising the profile of involvement in the arts through the programme of schools’ and community workshops.
The screening is now part of the local SO Festival and is programmed as part of a whole host of cultural activity throughout the beginning of July in Skegness. This summer the opera Semele will be screened as part of the festival alongside the learning and participation workshops in collaboration with Lincolnshire Music Education Hub.
