The initial draft of the Coastal Communities Matrix of information dissemination is available to view.
The matrix was circulated to start to develop a database of best practice examples, identify current research and highlight if there was a need for topic specific networks/ discussion groups for specific intrinsic issues
Initial returns have been mapped on a master matrix. The responses have highlighted the desire of LA to share information and a willingness to share expertise with other coastal areas.
The matrix has subsequently been amended and circulated to Government Departments, all RDAs and Government Offices. If you would like to add your authority or coastal organisation then please feel free to send the info through to me - this is going to be an evolving living document.
So what has the matrix reviled.
Key issues and priorities for authorities are around 'economics' lower levels of employment levels and seasonality. A lot of authorities have undertaken research to try and identify solutions to seasonality and the reliance on the tourism industry.
A major regeneration theme for most authorities was through developing public realm and town centre management.
The issues of climate change and coastal erosion are becoming more important on the agenda of some authorities - this maybe due to who completed the surveys,
Out migration young people and in migration old people were high on the radar.
Finally and probably the reason for the CCA is the issue of peripherally and the impact on Government policy and legislation.
The matrix will be used as part of a one stop source of coastal best practice to improve the efficiency of coastal authorities for Chief Executives and members to review and address regeneration and deprivation on the coast.
If your Authority/Coastal Partnership/Organisation/University would like to input into the matrix please complete the form and return it to the CCA Team
