Medina Valley

South East

The Medina Valley is the gateway to the Isle of Wight. It extends from Gurnard on the northern shore to Carisbrooke in the south side and back up to East Cowes Esplanade on the northern shore of the mouth of the Medina River.  It includes Newport, the County Town and both West and East Cowes which have ferry terminals.

Medina Valley contains many important assets that contribute to the overall Isle of Wight visitor proposition including the top two Isle of Wight events (Festival and Cowes Week) and the top two paid for attractions (Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle) as well as being the base for a number of large employers in other sectors.

The area has a number of environmental designations and our consultation as shown a desire to enhance the benefit being derived from the natural environment whilst at the same time protecting the key habitats and wildlife, respecting key designations and regulations.

Our vision is to support and help develop a vibrant visitor economy that promotes the unique natural, cultural, recreational and heritage assets of the Estuary as well as being an attractive place for local people to live, work and visit.
